Syrian Refugees in Jordan

Since 2011, almost 4 millions of Syrians have fled their motherland and registered as refugees in countries around Syria, including Jordan.

Many Syrian refugees in Jordan live in the capital Amman and in the urban areas in the north of the country, while the remaining live in the refugee camps.

Za'atari is the biggest refugee camp and the fourth largest city in Jordan.  It was set up in 2012 and is now home to almost 90,000 people who have fled the violence in Syria.

As Za'atari refugee camp has now reached full capacity, the majority of new arrivals are transported directly to Azraq camp, which was opened on April 30th, 2014. In July 2015 the population in this camp was estimated at  20,856.

UNHCR remains responsible for the refugees and the camp in coordination with the Jordanian Government.
